This group of abandoned homes was once called New City Complex or New City Village, and was a small community just off of Route 23 in West Milford, New Jersey. They were residences for Newark Watershed employees; the watershed being an entity that ultimately took over the property when the last occupant left in 1992.

The creepy thing about this place is that all the boards on the windows had been painted black, with a white shade and pull string without explanation. Many urban legends have been started by this odd place over the years.

Update: I passed by the place in November 2005, and all the houses were demolished... there is nothing left except for a few foundations.
