This county correctional facility was built in 1886 in the "big house" style of prison design. It closed in 1992 yet remains in excellent condition, although numerous reports depict the facility as "falling apart".

Many developers have looked over this waterfront property and shied away at the $1.5 million cost of demolition. But in 2007, the infamous "Jail for Sale" has finally been slated for demolition, and the abatement and remediation of the site is anticipated to be completed early in 2008.
