This hospital was once a state sanitarium used to treat tuberculosis sometime before 1930, and was later converted to a residential psychiatric hospital.

In 1979, the facility was used soley for adolescents, combining the dwindling populations of the programs at surrounding adult state hospitals. It might have been a developmental center after 1993; the history remains unclear.

The building remains patrolled by a skeleton crew of workers, maintaining various services still running inside and keeping it sealed tight.
