That is beautiful..
"Oh Captain, my Captain!"
it looks like a building stood there. Just saying this because i think i see some foundation
I went to Catholic school for 12 years. These are common structures on the grounds of convents and monasteries. They are prayer grottos, Motts is correct. Usually a statue of a Saint or of Mary is placed inside and it is a place to pray and to reflect in a religious manner. Some places have beautiful flowers and gardens planted around it. Most likey not a building.
Weasel - You went to Cat-lick school? Well .. that explains a LOT.

Just kidding, sweets. Luv you.
Serrena, yep, I stiil gots the uniform at my mom's somewhere. Hubby wants me to wear it for him sometime....
You were that for your Hubby and I betcha Peter will have a little sibling 'fore long.
The First Sign
And God said,
At the time of fullness, cleanse the
world with my rage.
Gather forth the White Oil, the Black
Cup and the Blood of the Ten Sinners.
Prepare for the Ritual of the Holy
Assumption.
The Second Sign
And God said,
Offer the Blood of the Ten Sinners and
the White Oil. Be then released from the bonds of the flesh, and gain the Power of Heaven. From the Darkness and Void, bring forth Gloom, and gird thyself with Despair of the Giver of Wisdom.
LOL! Nice Silent Hill 4 reference!
Good quote, but I'm not sure if it really goes with the picture.
I've been on that property before with my friends, but I never saw that before!
Very lonely, but peaceful.
Actually I think this grotto looks kind of creepy. It looks like it wants to devour you.

"Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly"
Beautiful. Very Gorey-esq in the B&W.
I was a student here from '75 to '77. It was a Grotto and Quite beautifull
Where is Hef and the girls?
hey does it look like a skull right above the table part of the altar are the eyes and nose below it are the mouth and teeth...thats awesome!
I remember seeing something like this at a monastary in california.
Too bad the statue is gone-probably a Blessed Mary statue was there. I love grottos-they are so peaceful and meditative. Yes, I'm a good Catholic girl! : )
I went to Catholic school for 12 years too, but I used to visit this with old Father Nisanski, he was a wonderful priest.
When this was used there was a statue of the virgin here.
Oh my God this is the place I would love to sit and write at.
Ducky I saw the same thing after looking at it again, and finished reading the posts to see if anyone else saw it too. C:
