Tony C. I think you are the one who needs to do the research. I am a daughter of a nurse who use to work here,and residents where beaten and raped and murdered. If it wasnt for Geraldo Rivera busting in on them and catching all them running around naked the place would still be open till this day.Its a sick place and they did some sick stuff to these people. I am surprised that there are people who do not know of or understand some of the autrocities that occurred in many if not all institutions. The horrors of places like Letchworth and Willowbrook are well documented. Rape is very common among individuals with developmental disabilities - approximately 80% of women and 25% of men have been sexually assaulted. I believe 79% of those who have been sexually assaulted have been victims more than once.

Of course we understand that some places were awful but at the same time this is not what the site is about...

We have to remember that:
1. Institutions like this are for people who cannot function in the 'real' world, therefore whether rape, neglect or any form of abuse happened or not, these people were already suffering. We need to respect that.
2. Paranormal investigation is a valid science that is nothing to do with an urge to go into a haunted house and scare yourself silly. I believe that this site contains a lot o energy, possibly negative. We don't know if there are spirits here but if there are, do they not deserve some peace? This kind of science may help us to understand life after death and how spirits can be helped to rest. Maybe this sounds a bit hippyish but what I'm trying to say is we need to respect things we don't understand. Please think before writing insensitive comments

The comment that talked about the metal plates on the table going into the autoclave reminded me of an old ER story. Our local coroner was a very laid back guy and he came in to check a fatality from a car accident. For a certain period after death you can draw blood out of the heart. He told me to go for it. Showed me the spot on the chest to insert the needle and then proceded to talk with the cops., He was watching me as I prepared the equipment and when i SWABBED the skin with alcohol he gave me such a look!! He said quietly don't need to do that to a dead body.......

Dawn, I believe many probably were raped and abused but in the later years things changed there. As for Geraldo? I worked in that very building he went to and showed on tv. I worked with that resident they showed naked. Her name was Iris and no one could keep any clothes on her as much as we tried. She always stripped her clothes off and would constatnly rock, it wasn't because she was being neglected. We had to go as far as actually tying a jumpsuit from the back on her to keep clothes on her. All the residents wore diapers because they were severely retarded. Geraldo made a name for himself with this whole thing while looking at these residents with disgust. Geraldo is a slimeball!!!
