Mothballed

Mothballed

I was stumped on this one though - I'd guess this machine was related to ironing or sewing.

Very odd. Perhaps a steam ironing board with a shelf below for folding linens.

Or is there a more diabolic use?
Whew! At first glance, I thought it had a medical use and shuddered to think what evil torture was inflicted on some poor hapless loony.
Upon closer inspection I see what might be a bath tub in the next room. Perhaps this device was used to warm blankets or towels?
Wow! That is very very Old.
Looks like a steam press used to iron large sheets and towels, but missing the upper half.
Im surprised they left that there, not vey nice looking though
its strange how old decaying machinery can creep me out, no matter what it was used for
You can use it for ever you want it to be !!!!!
@Andy-- Close enough. It's a sheet press. Steams tight creases in sheets--bed linens.

Gold star!
I agree, its for ironing. We had these in an old dress shop I worked at int eh alterations room. The top board was for ironing and at least ours had these irons that were hooked up to a water supply to generate industrial strength steam. belive that bottom part / shelf would be where oversized items like sheets (or in our case dresses/gowns) would rest so they would not hit the dirty floor. At least thats my opinion
The diabolical and evil torture uses suggested are far more interesting, but yeah, looks like a steam-shooting ironing board to me. But then, they could have been strapping poor victims down on it too! The big sock for the board is in the basket. I had the same take on that basket too, eldo!
I think that's a "Mangle" used to quick press linens. I think there's some pieces missing tho'.
