Facade

Facade

The exterior of the ward; most of the buildings were constructed in this style, which I presume to be the 1850s architecture built specifically for the asylum. The bars over the windows seemed elegant and tasteful.

Beautiful!
The second window from the left on the bottom row, is the bars half missing or are they just half painted?
Yes, Beautiful...
Nice. What are these red boxes that show up in some of these pictures and is that a label above it?
I'm assuming they are for fire extinguishers / alarms / hoses.
The green shutters mimic the greenery of the trees. The colors in this building are beautiful. Very restful.
Really like the brick work around the windows !!!!
Very pretty!
They were cabinets for the fire extinguishers devices; I use to have some of them at my school..
I agree with TootUncommon.
This sort of reminds me of the buildings in Colonial Williamsburg (Virginia) around the college there and in the Colonial part too.

The colors are stunning, and even those green (whatever they are) go so well with the rest of the surroundings.
Amazing that the shutters are real. We get so used to them being decorative only in the US that it's easy to forget they have a real function.
So beautiful, motts
What are those two cement walls there, on either side of the steps? I love how the streaks run down. It almost looks like a waterfall. Would there be room in there for a small patio table and chairs?
