Waterworks

Returning to the main building, we jumped down into the basement.

Motts what used to be on the wall.
I think that thing above the faucets is anyones guess ??
Anyone could take a picture of some dusty old valves against a crumbling wall, but Motts makes it an artistic statement. The stark white light shining down on the pipes and the colors on the wall... I could frame this and hang it on my wall. It's perfect.
Early predecessor to "Soap on a rope". Pre-soap dispenser period. :-)
Thanks Motts, I've been jonesin' for new locations.
This gets my vote for newest wallpaper!
I agree, MomPink. The colours and textures and Mr. Motts' eye (for a good photo) make this a great shot.
I'm married to a boilerman and those things above the other lower faucets are inspection tags, half rotted away, looks like.

Wallpaper, pretty please.
I would love to see this as a wallpaper :)
Art for sure!
This one creeped me out for some reason. Not water, poisonous gas? eeeew.
I'm pretty sure that the labels over the valves are zone markers describing what section(s) of the building each zone controls...Each zone has a seperate shutoff for maintenance in a given area without requiring the entire building's water (steam?) to be shut off....IMO!
Well... Motts, I beg to differ. Please notice that the riser/down pipe in the middle of the group of valves has a pipe plug on the top and there is no ID tag.
Directly above is a "device", it appears to be an old Spirax-Sarco steam pressure reducing valve. If you rotate the pipe on the top of the "device"from the 7 O'Clock position as it is in your photo, to the 3 O'Clock position the out-put port would line up with the middle down-port. I wish the picture was a little bit larger as I am sure the main steam feed would have been observed. After all that....MOTTS you are great, keep them coming!!!
I surmise that what we are looking at is a steam pressure reducing and distribution system. As facilities reduced in size, many just abandoned systems to un-needed facilities, as evidence by the pipe plug.
Thanks Steve, you are definitely more knowledgeable on these topics!
Oh! It's been FAR too long, and I'm instantly drawn back in! This looks a Banksy piece to me. Thank you for being brilliant and sharing it with us...
Another vote for wallpaper for this one!
