Just look and appreciate the people who did the brick and fieldstone work! Absolutely amazing!
Magnificent stonework on the base. You just can't beat German craftsmanship.
I can picture someone looking down from that top window.
A ghost sensing visitors perhaps.
Look at this pitcher and hear the ADAMS FAMILY music in the back ground
Okay, I'm TRYING to get off the fairy-tale kick, but I'm thinking Rapunzel...
Unfortunately, the Königsberg Sanatorium burnt down last year. (2010)
Apperently, some idiots set a fire and the fire department decided to let it burn down entirely since most parts had been demolished by fire anyway.
thank you Kat for the update
Rapunzel rapunzel let down your hair.........
oh someone already said that lol
I love the combination of stone with wood, they don't use it enough anymore in construction. It's a shame this place burnt down.
I'd hate to have to fight a fire in an old structure like this. Too many places for fire to spread in the internal spaces and never be seen until a firefighter fell through the floor. Of course I'm guessing that is why the Feuer Wehr decided to let it burn.
Wow. Now that is creepy and foreboding all at once isn't it?
Unfortunately, structure fires in abandoned & derelict buildings are fought from the exterior (surround and drown) due to the dangers to firefighters. Most of these buildings are cluttered nightmares with missing or weak floors & stairs, and unstable roofs & ceilings. Add a moderate fire & smoke load and the firefighter is blind and the structure will fail much earlier than a building that's in use & maintained. Sadly, the best we can do is protect surrounding exposures and let a grand old lady go.
Looks like the upper story to previous photo?
Love that shot, you have a real talent Motts..
So sad that some idiots can not appreciate history like the rest of us... At least its glory has been saved by some fine photographic work :)
