Judging by the age ferdy, it looks like where patches of plaster have come away, either that or its paint

Tremendous use of natural light. The partially open door at the end of the hall is perfect. These silent walls witnessed so much over the decades.

I love the composition of this picture. The bright hallway leading to that dark one with the light coming through the open door at the end is lovely. That door is beckoning us to see what's going on down there. :)
