The stairs look like marble and I just love the carvings on the ceiling, just beautiful. That's what's wrong with newer buildings, they just don't have the detail that the older ones had.

Wow, they took the time to frame in and enclose the undersides of the stairs and put that wonderful fresco detail on. The lower left door looks like it has a really steep staircase, hidden in the shadows. I guess the banisters were wood and taken by someone.

That detail under the staircase is incredible. Think of how difficult that must have been to install.

Looks like where old doors go to die down there.

In addition to the ceiling detail, I don't think you see bottom steps like that in newer buildings either.

Wow. Now THAT is beautiful. I agree that those stairs make me a little wobbly in the knees though and I am not afraid of heights at all. :)

I have nightmares about climbing stairways with doors at the top that swing open and hit me and knock me back down the stairs. This door looks like the type that would do that to me. Bad door.
