Imagine taking the time to do a ceiling like that. It seems to be unnecessary, why not just make a normal right-angle ceiling? The rounded ceiling is so much nicer. Very small space between two doors, I guess this wasn't a room?
Looks like a dressed-for-winter, crawling baby under the window.

That's an example of old-school limner (plaster) work. Finding a limner who can do this kind of work today would be very difficult.
You can say that again Gulliver, everything's sheetrock today!
