It looks so open without the railings.
Think about having to walk up and down all those stairs. Whew!
What an amazing shot and there are so many in this place.
holy cow, this made my head spin
Reminds me of the optical illusion of the endless staircase

Staircase shots are the best!
That is so amazing. Engineering at it's finest. It's sad that something so beautiful, built so carefully, with obvious pride in craftsmanship, is abandoned. I think on a subconscious level, these buildings remind us that nothing is forever. And the sands of time doesn't care how artistic it is.
Welcome to Hogwarts...
lol
I agree, Vince. An amazing shot from the master. What angles. As Chrysalis (I think it was) said for an earlier shot, it looks like something Escher would love.
Labrynth I tell ya
Wow I wish this was a show...I could so picture it on treasure HD channel. Mr. Motts you should take video as well ...Hehe
I agree B...though that would prolly get him in hot water if he went TOO public with his...expeditions. We don't want Mr. Motts in trouble with Johnny Law for breaking & entering, tresspassing...you know that stuff. ;)

This makes me think of a painting I once saw. It might have been from Escher, I don't remember but it was eerily similar to this.
kaycebane, definitely Labyrinth :-)
Most definitely Labyrinth, now where's David Bowie?
TOBY!
LOVE LOVE LLLOOOVVVE THIS!!!! :-)
Whoa .. *eyes bulge*
Looks like an Escher illustration. I'm dizzy!
Those banister-bandits sure were busy in this place. No place to be clumsy or careless. Many death-dives await into the dark pit of zombies.
i'm also thinking about Escher. i like those angles on the photo, it's pretty dynamic.
That would really suck to fall from the top of these!
Great picture. Kind of Escher-like as the earlier comment pointed out!
uncommon architecture is most wonderful. american buildings always have one set of stairs usually away behind a door to go up and down the building i like how all these stairs are on either sides of the building. very weird. and without railings also very unsafe
That was not an uncommon design mid 20th century for stairs to circumnavigate a tower like that . I remember seeing this mostly in schools and public buildings.

Question: What is the last letter of the word "hospital"?
