Canal

The side of the plant that faces the river (I think called a gatehouse) is where water was controlled and let into the penstocks (underground, near-vertical iron pipes which directed water into the wheel pit).

It's nice to see "different" locations like this. Love the photos...as always!
Thanks for the new gallery!!!
New stuff!
I love the green water and the scale of this shot.
Must have been something to see back then.
Mr. Motts, not only are you an extraordinary photographer, you are also a talented writer. I had chills after reading the story of your trip to this location. I liked the old construction photos. Not much on safety in 1905. Nary a fall protection harness to be seen. =8-O
Wow, Its great to see a gallery from Canada for the first time, I've always thought there must be some interesting stuff up that way.
Cool a new gallery and man that water is green it almost looks more like paint then water.
Great gallery! I love this shot
What a way to start a new day,with a new gallery,Thanks Motts
Man, you must have nerves of steel to explore some of these advanced decaying locations. You must be on your toes all the time checking to see if it is safe to pass over the rotted floors/catwalks. Awesome new gallery Mr.Motts!!!
Thank you for posting the shots of the building during construction and in use. Beautiful work on it. Love finding a new gallery !
Sweeeeeet! Photos of Canada!!! Sadly I live in British Colombia on the other side of the country... Vancouver has many old buildings though, and I hope to photograph some of the old buildings there some day.
I'm thrilled to see you've taken some pictures in Canada, Mr. Motts. I how everything in this picture is grey except for the water. It really stands out.

Canada - It's nice to see another person from BC around here. I'm not far from Vancouver - in the Fraser Valley actually.
Mr Motts, maybe a FAQ but I haven't seen it answer. What do you do in these places if you need to go to the toilet? It seems wrong just to poop in a corner but still, I'm curious.
Great to see a new selection as always and keep up the great hobby!
Sir Motts- I live in Rochester, NY so I make it to Niagara falls once or twice a year. I love this place (both the American side and Canadian side are great). Great photos, great story and great to see something local for me. Thanks again!
Ahh i live in Toronto! Very excited for this gallery. Thnx Motts :)
What would happen if you fell into that?
On that day, probably get hypothermia pretty fast.

When the plant was open and the gates to the water intakes were open, I'd assume there would be a pretty good pull, not sure if it would be enough to suck a floating person down though.

From here I believe you'd go down the tube, through the large turbine blades, down the large brick tunnel which makes up the outflow... and then a dropped into the river from behind the Niagara Falls water curtain.
Well-p, MY curiosity is darn well satisfied. Won't be sleeping much tonight...this is why I leave such exploration to others...

Question: What is the first letter of the word "abandoned?"
