What fun to fall into that, especially back when it was in operation.
Wow, second comment. I wonder if that ring is made of cork and would fall apart from age as in some of the old shipwrecks.

Note the strainer grates to stop fallen workers from getting ground up in the impellers deep underground. Lots of people got sucked down and ground up in those.
That is some eerie looking water... a very pretty color, yet slightly opaque and mysterious. I wouldn't want to fall in it. :O
