Control Room

Control Room

A map of the rail lines and switches wraps around the console. I wanted to get some closeups but we were running short on time, so off to the roof we went.

WOW...reminds me of Star Trek! I can see Sulu and Uhura at the controls...Where to Captain?

:) Neat shot!
I wish you had spent more time in this room. I would have like to see more of the equipment.
Buttons and switches??? Let-me-at-it!! Oooo, what does THIS button do?? (BAAZZZAAPP)
Once upon a time this was a very busy place!
My dad does model railroading and those maps are exactly how the modelers map their switches as well.
Buttons and switches play area!
ohhh the temptation!!!!!
Can you imagine what it must have been like to work here? Who was the last one in this room? Did he stop and look back once more before closing the door behind himself for the last time? I can almost hear the footsteps fading away.
tower 48 and 49 were on the ends of rail yard, they were so big it took 3 men on motorized chairs also on small rails to route the traffic around the station .My dad was one of them. He also worked that consol.
These were used up until 1985. When the building closed in 1979 to rail traffic, Anthony Fedele bought it and Conrail remained in the building using several floors for offices until 1985.
The very heart of the place...
