Mid-Ring

Mid-Ring

Up in the bell tower... it was tempting to swing the hammers, but wouldn't have been too smart in our situation. A little tap on the metal let out a satisfactory ring.

Alot of the time there would be pipes for the organ on the way to the top of the bell tower .Were there any?
As an English church-bell-ringer I'm particularly interested in this shot.. The bell on the left is a 'flared' continental shape; the other is more traditional. The arched, cast-iron headstocks that support the bells help to counter-balance them, which is why one of the bells is partly inverted.
The proper name for the 'hammers' is clappers :)
Awesome view inside the Belfry. Glad they didnt go off as you visited here. That would be quite deafening. That is if they still work!?
I imagine the noise would have been deafing if they had of rung and not the best of times either
Ah, the tintinabulations! Where are the bats?
Can you imagine the reactions if those bells were rung once more?
Maybe the last time?
Thanks for the great info on the bells!
Those are really impressive. I'd love to have heard them ring.
Icewox great comment
It can be truly said that i have a Motts in my belfry.
I wouldn't be able to resist thumping one of those bells either lol. My hubby used to work for our church, and part of his job was to ring the bell for services, funerals, weddings, etc. and I remember tugging on that bell rope to ring it and being almost lifted off my feet (I am tiny at only 5'0" lol) by the sheer weight of it! What an exhilarating feeling it was though to hear that bell ring...and how LOUD it was too!

Did you see any bats up there? Sorry...silly question I know. :D
Sad that you don't here many church bells anymore... not around where i live anyways.... the reason....

They may "offend" someone....

All I can say about that is .... sad...
I bet they weigh a lot.
No organ pipes or bats that I was able to see...
crab apple monkeys remind me of velvet crayons at dusk.
May I mambo dogface to the banana patch please?
Crayons taste like purple
No Quasimodo jokes? He swings on the bells in the "Church of the Disfiguration"? Charles Laughton roams there at night with his group of fellow-hunchback zombies!
Thanks BillDoor!!
