Piano

Inside one of the solariums, or "sun parlors" as they were originally called; below is a photograph taken circa 1928.

Certainly does not look quite a sunny anymore.
Really like these before and after pictures, thank you. Do you ever find old photographs of the site and then try and find the same spot?
The ceiling n the windows or so ornate. They don't make em like this anymore
I like the before and after pictures too. It really helps to remind me of the human aspect to these buildings. Most of the time I see abandoned places and feel sort of detached.
Yeah, how do you get the same shot as the before and afeter?
Motts goes back in time to snap a photo of the same spot.

I wonder why they blocked out the narrow windows on each side of that window. I kind of like the look of it the old way.
Interesting, I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it, Eldokid. Thanks for the before and after Mr. Motts, they really round things out, and they add a human dimension as Butterfly says. It's easy to forget that people used to be kept here.
It is kind of sad to see the piano laying there, almost dejected and rejected...and to see the before picture when it was all sunny and people could enjoy the sun's warmth and the after picture where it just looks...empty and neglected--almost brings a tear to my eye.
Unfortunately I don't get much time to really read up on the history of these places beforehand, so the matching up is usually just a matter of luck.

Someone did a really amazing before and after series in Detroit's Cass Tech, but I can't find the link...
The stone work is gorgeous. They put a lot of exquisite work into these buildings.
I can't believe someone would paint over that beautiful stone work.
Wonder whats going thru those peoples minds as they sit there on a sunny day?
Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious the 'before' shot was posed. I can just imagine them getting their 'best' patients to sit for these old shots. Makes me a bit sad for some reason.
I'd like to take this room back to my house, fix it all up, and have myself a nice sunny ready porch. it's absolutely stunning.
You should go back with a pair of old, beat up shoes and set them up at the bottom of the piano to make it look like someone is under there! Cool shot.
theres only women in the pitcher, did they separate the sexes?
Yes; when both wings of the building were completed and the WW I veterans moved out, each wing was devoted to a gender.
