A typical day room, without the clock and television.

I almost thought that there was a flat-screen TV in there for a moment! How strange to see such a gaping hole.

I wonder where the clock went...something very poetic about the clock being removed as time passes without the aid of a clock...very poetic indeed.

(Oh BTW--first comment! YAY!)
Looks like "Girl Interrupted".
Are you sure that's not a flat screen TV showing a picture of a dark corner with some surface-mount electrical wiring...?

;)
I bet that cavity got pretty warm with a TV and being over the steam heat!
Good point Mike. Shoot, I could easily spend some quality TV time in here. I'm surprised they left the pictures on the wall. Nice.
TV watching must have been a real bore, but hey after the BEST program who needed one
Hoolie that was my first thought too!
Reminds me of the day rooms in JobCorps. which kinda supports my argument that JCor is insane. lol
Pretty comfy for a dayroom... most of them I've seen (the ones for patients) had the TVs bolted to an upper corner of the room, near the ceiling. Meaning you have to crane your neck to see it. What I find interesting is that the pictures are still on the walls, but someone took the clock. Hmmm!
Nice N Cosy
I really like the chair on the left! I know I have seen one like it someplace.
"Hey can you change the channel... I don't like this show"
*click*
"That's better!"
Before I noticed the heat registers at the bottom I thought the opening was for one of those electric fireplaces instead of a TV. I guess the TV would make more sense though. It is funny how that was the first thought that came to my mind though.
I think we had chairs like the one on the left in my college dorm common room...I just had a flashback! Ugh, not so pretty...I guess this was redone in the 60s/70s?
That room is in very good conditon compared to the rest of the place. Is it a newer section? It looks very modern as well.
Is it time for TV? No cause I dont know the time or where the TV is
and now..our main show, the invisible tv show!
Not bad looking. I think the blue tile is a lesser of aesthetic evils compared to the brown and green (or orange and yellow!) varieties.
I like the chair on the right; I'm pretty sure I've seen almost exactly the same one in a mall today!
Wow...thats kind of....nice:)

hmm
The hole for the clock has the same mounting holes for a circular wall speaker, so although it would make sense for a clock to be there. Its far more likely a speaker may have been used with the PA system or even with the TV (exp if the tv was behind plate glass). Its possible though that it was a clock, but even universally synced clocks have only a small hole for the wiring/motor and the rest of the clock sits outside the wall. This is for ease of installation.
That blue and wood chair looks like some of the ones we had in the lounge area of my dorm floor my first year of college.
