Wow that shade is still intact? Cool! When do you think it was put up on there? I love that radiator...makes me think of sleeping over my gramma's house when she lived in the house that had steam heat. How those radiators hisssssed at night and how spooky it was for a 6 year old girl to hear that. :)
I grew up with radiators and I really miss them. I wish I had them in my house. I have wonderful memories of putting our clothes on them in the winter and putting them on all nice and warm. We had beautiful ceramanic bottles hanging on them to keep the air from getting dry. The North still has houses with radiators but not here in the South it seems. Oh those wonderful days in Europe.........
I remember in early grade school melting crayons on a hot radiator in the back of the classroom.
Old but still looking spiffy
The simplicity of this shot is it's brilliance. The way the light falls across the floor gives a feeling of loneliness & melancholy. A lot of people (patients & staff) gazed out those windows over the decades.
I bet that shade would simply disintegrate if one tried to pull it. I love how clean the foreground is.
I was thinking the same thing Rekrats, probably brittle and very dried out.
That window really makes me think jail cell, the way it looks like bars in the window.
damn thats shady
steam heat in the dorm where I spent my first half of college. No hissing, just pipes that loudly went Clunk-Bang-Thud in the night.
I love those old style steam radiators, made of cast iron. Our house was built in 1962, and we used to have them all over there, but when we renovated most of them were replaced with new, more boxy sheet metal steam radiators. They are still nice, but the warmth is just not as comfy as back then...
my parents still have their original radiators in their house that was built in 1881. I use to love coming in from cold winter mornings or snowball fights with my brothers and feeling the heat come off of them. I still love going to their house in the wintertime and hearing the steam hissing out of them
Very nice shot and the exposure is perfect.
