Main Gate

Main Gate

With some effort we made it inside the secure complex. Ahead is the main gate, which consists of an inner pen so there would only be one opening to the outside world at a time.

Freedom is so close, yet so far.
It doesn't say picnic ground to me somehow.
Cold. Sterile. Lonely. Desolate.

Unwelcoming.

Wow.

Nice.
Beautiful with the blue sky.
I can see ppl. pacing these grounds... looking up at that tower...seeing the guard with a gun waiting to pick you off with one bad move.
Not exacitly "the Green Mile'?
With some effort? Were you chased by inmate skeletons? lol
Is it for sale?
I agree with an earlier comment, but this looks like a perfect site for a prison movie or prison scenes in a movie. After all the quality of the site is 75%+ in good shape, and with locations like this getting complete overhauls into the prefab cinder block prisons now a days, it seems someone would have taken advantage of this retro reformatory.
Night of the Prison Zombies. Prison Zombies From Hell. Tickle Me Elmo's Anal Nightmare.
Mr. Motts, one of the few that tries deperately to get In a prison...
This is called a Sally Port. Once you come in the first set of doors or gate, your vehicle or persons would be searched before continuing on to the actual prison. Next to it looks to be either a guard shack or small processing center.
That building looks like it has been caught on fire. Because back in 1989 3 buildings were caught on fire here. The fire was started by some convicts. The tragedy left 2 inmates injured.
the gated area was called a "sally port. The guard in the towere could let a vehicke into the max facility by isolating it between the gates, where it was searched coming and going. The little building in front was "the hole", a small group of just 4 cells where inmates were sent for isolation for fighting ect. They were usually in "the hole for 7 days or less. Total isolation. Only contact was froma officer who brought a food tray to them 3x per day via a small pickup truck from the chow hall. I served a few times, I recall driving the little navy surplus pickup and going inside to feed the guys.
There were actually 7 cells in the hole. The windows shown were behind cells 1 - 6. There was no window behind cell 7. When the light that was controlled by the officer was turned off, it was pitch black in cell 7 - even at high noon.
impressive! i've tried before, but never managed to get this far!
