Columns

Columns

The covered walkways between the buildings were lined with wooden Doric columns. I recall a movie scene being filmed here but I cannot remember the name...

That walkway must have been lovely when the building was in use and everything was in pristine condition. Just curious, what is that diagonal line going across the columns in the center of the picture?
It looks very familiar!
It's a gash or crack in the window I was shooting out of.
Weird. Asylum Projects says complex still active. Wonder how long ago this was posted tho. They are into the 90's so may have closed since then.

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for responding, Motts!
The hospital is still in operation, it just downsized in the 1980s. I think that description is verbatim from SHC's history page: http://www.dhmh.state....ngfield/history.html
Looks like something Hitchcock would have use in one of his masterpiece"s. I could just imagine its late evening and someone is being followed down this corridor, could be pretty scarry.
Thanks Mr Motts. Other links on that page are interesting too. Odd that I had not really heard much about this one before. These building are in good shape - they could be re-purposed. Would be awesome.
The columns are so beautiful! What a wonderful picture!
Nice pic in B&W. VERY Hitchcock-esque. :)
That walkway would be such a nice detail in my imaginary country estate.
It wouldn't fit in my apartment.
I like all the columns and arches
This has an old southern Antebellum Mansion look to it with those columns. Very peaceful.
love the B/W, makes it look a little more creepy
Me too. JackieB. Loves the colums and arches alot. JackieB when are you coming down to florida so i can show you Adandoned Hotel.
Reminds me of Waverly Hills in Louisville KY.
Mr. Motts,
Was the main building the Springfield mansion at one time?
I'm not entirely sure which building was the original mansion on the estate; it might have been used as a residence for the superintendent. I believe the current "main building" at the hospital is the Hubner Psychopathic Building, built after the establishment of the hospital.
a wallpaper perhaps?
this looks like my school *que harry potter theme* WELCOME TO HOGWARTS
The picture reminds me of a scene from "Red Dragon" - where Will Graham visits Hannibal Lecter. He's taking a break outside (or was he already leaving?) and the annoying reporter Freddy Lounds takes a photo.
Ah, yes - Red Dragon was the movie that was filmed here which I was thinking of. Thanks!
Did anybody notice the hook things on the outside of the columns? They could just be holders for rain gutters, but I am thinking perhaps they hung planters from them. That would have been really nice.
