Ah, I'm the first to comment on this photo in this new gallery. I wonder how many times people made mistakes in the name, i.e. mistakenly putting Babcox and Wilcock or Babcock and Wilcock or Babcox and Wilcox, etc. etc. What are the chances of someone named Babcock linking up with someone named Wilcox to form a company? Go figure.
Beautiful green patina. If that's copper I'm surprised it was still there.
That needs to be removed and saved.
I agree, that would definitly need to be saved
Hey. iII save it ........in my scrap pile.
Amaizing pieace of history.
You have to appreciate Type E Pulverizers
Good old Babcock and Wilcox.... the people who brought you Three Mile Island.

first off, the pics on this site are fantastic - the full scope too, both vintage and new. great overall balance, contrast, and creepy feel to them all. just out of curiousity though, what did have to do to get tours for these places? and how did you deal with asbestos issues?
A good bit of sneaking around; sometimes you can just walk into these places, other times you have to climb fences and walls, evade security or police, and get creative finding ways in.

I only worry about asbestos exposure in confined spaces with friable material (usually tunnels), and use a mask with a P-100 rated particulate filter.
I collect alot of the boiler face plates and old pressure gauges. if any one goes adventuring and can snag them for me id appreciate it. my email is jcmccombe@gmail.com im a steam engineer and love working in old plants i used to operate and maintain a 1923 babcock wilcox rivited HRT (horizontal return) boiler now replaced with a cleaver brooks package blr in 2007
