This was pretty large, for a hotel.

i could have a crazy rave there
What about a heavy metal festival .... !!!!
PURPLE ceiling?? orange curtains? *gags* excellent shot, but dayum...the colors! :D
I think I saw Ton Jones here!!! Just kidding... looks like that lounge though.
Pie if it's true that many acts started at these big resorts, I bet that many now-famous faces once trod these boards. This place sooooo makes me think of a snowbound Dirty Dancing.
Yeah Frank, Heavy Metal Festival sounds good. As for raves, those kids are a bunch of drama queens, queers, and divas.
That is large for a hotel. I imagine they had some big stars perform there at one time. Had the space for it.
Reminds me of an old reception room for a wedding or something.
Here is a list: Frankie Avalon,Kenny Rodgers,Tony Bennet Eddie Fisher,Debbie ReynoldsKathy Lee Gifford,Vic Damone,Tommy Tune,Florence Henderson, The Gay Lords,Allan King,Red Buttons,Flip Wilson,Milton Berle,Jackie Mason,Henny Youngman,Joan Rivers,Freddy Roman,Mal Z Lawrence,Sal Richards,The Temptations,The Platters,The Drifters,Tony Orlando A& Dawn,Chuck Mangione,Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge,The 4 Tops, The 4 Seasons,,The 5th Dimension,--- Much Much More
Dayum!! If those walls could talk. And Billy Preston died yesterday!!
that is such a bummer about billy preston, a very sweet man they say..
I used to love those lights on the walls to the left and right side of the stage that formed the shape of stars. They coordinated with these tacky strip lights running across the back of the stage... and for some reason... this is what I remember from the Pines night club! Also, the M.C. used to introduce himself from offstage right, which was absolutely hysterical. Ahhh, the memories!
I'm digging the purple ceiling. It almost looks like it's made out of suede.
Im with Frank on that one!
new years partys were great there i remember when i was like 4 being on stage with someone i believe it was frankie valley when the ball dropped
Notice the chairs are gone? They were purple and now sit in the night club of the Swan Lake Resort (Stevensville Hotel). Some things never die.
"Nobody puts baby in a corner"!
My father played in the show band for many years. I met all the acts as a kid. I remember hanging backstage. What a shame for ALL the hotels.
Lee, Who was your dad? My family stayed at the Pines from 1959 - 1976 every summer so maybe I knew him..if you see this post please e-mail me back at Doreen4remax@aol.com. I would really appreciate it...at least the Pines stays alive in our memories for those that lived it.. Thanks, Doreen :)
thats like a real theater in nyc or something
Finally, someone mentioned Dirty Dancing. I was waiting to post until the end to see if anyone else thought of that movie. That's all I have been able to think of while looking at these pictures.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner", is my favorite line from the movie!

I was never lucky enough to go to a resort like this when I was growing up, but I sure am enjoying the pictures of this and all the stories from guests/workers.
anyone remember new years eve parties?
The theater of the absurd.
I used to go to Jewish Youth conventions there back in my teens... back in the 70s. Great memories. Sad decay of the hotel. Life moves forward!
_______________wow.............
WOw what photos... I was the lounge band, "The Perell Trio", around the late 60's, the Summer Hines, Hines and Brown were there. What a Summer !!!!!!! We were all like babies..... Anyone who was there, write to me at nyrhythm@yahoo.com
Best wishes,
Jerry Perell
I was there in the late 70s, on a college student weekend. You'll never guess who was the comedy act on Saturday night: a very young, pre-porn Ron Jeremy! (He was a terrible comedian, BTW)
It was Hines, Hines and Dad. It was Gregory and Maurice Hines and thier father. I know because my dad was Johnny Greco. I grew up in that hotel, along with Doreen!!! Although I knew more hiding places than she did!!
Thanks Kappi, you are right...EXCEPT for that one Summer. Johnny Brown, the most amazing singer, who later starred in Golden Boy on Broadway and Laugh -In, sang with the talented Hines family and that Summer in the Pines they were Hines Hines and Brown.
That was the same Summer the big bands played shows there... Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, and Buddy Greco also sang a show. It was an most amazing Summer to be there, and I worked at most "Mountains" hotels over those years including the Windsor, Esther Manor, Grossingers, Raleigh, Homowack, Kutchers, and who can forget the first years ( almost pre-teen) starting at the Barsalee Country Club and the Kerhonkson Lodge!
PS Your dad was an amazing person. and a GREAT MC... I remember him well.
Sorry... meant Kippi
It is so sad that they are tearing this place down.
Do you know when they
plan to tear it down? We were just there a week ago. It's falling apart and delapitated but I will be so sad to see this place go.
