Strange that its been painted directly onto the wall,
looks good nonetheless tho'.
I wonder if they painted the picture on the wall so that the patients couldn't pull it down and hurt themselves (or others) with the hardware. Does anyone know? Lynne?
The contrast here is remarkable, the wonderful painting, the snow and boarded up fireplace.... truly amazing thanks for grabbing this shot Motts i really like it.
Why oh why do people let beautiful buildings just sit there and rot and then they have to get torn down. They should be reused in respect to all the people that have memories there. This would have made some beautiful loft apartments or some other reuse.
Is this a fireplace? Where should Santa enter now, after they boarded it up?
I agree with you Patricia. Some of these institutions may at one time have been places of pain and despair but they can "redeem" themselves into useful apartments, offices, shops, etc.
@ Norway,
Ya beat me to the Santa reference. :)
At least it isn't that awfull BLUE
I love the boarded-up fireplace. It's... so final, somehow.

Where has Lynne been, anyway? Haven't seen her around in AGES.
Ahhhh, Rekrats, you were thinking the same thing I was! I was hoping she could answer my question (above) and provide us with some of her unique wit at the same time! :-)
This seems so out of place. Like it's from a different building.
I was just thinking earlier the same thing about Lynne. She has been noticebly absent for awhile. Lynne oh Lynne where for art thou? we miss your wonderful input!
Nice Motts, looks like you got a great shot of one of the "Kenny Dumonds"!

I live about a few hundred feet away from this place and was very sad to see it go. The cheap housing that is replacing it has no character at all compared to the old Kirkbride! The primary component of most of it is cheap glue board; I'll will be very surprised if any of it lasts 20 years without developing serious structural problems.

Anywho, from what I understand Ken was a charge attendant at the hospital, he painted many of these around the place, the most numerous of them were found in the newer buildings (memorial group) on the other side of the campus. There was a room on the third floor in I do believe G ward that was full of scenic paintings just like this one.

Thanks for taking all of these! Makes me wish I went in a few more times to get more shots myself........
This cheery painting almost looks out of place with the blackened boarded up fireplace...and the crumlbing paint...
wonder what this room was does look very out of place with the rest I wonder how many people warmed themselves by this fireplace
This is a section of wall I would have saved if possible and had refurbished.
