Sputum Refuse

Sputum Refuse

Sputum is the mucus that is coughed up by a tubercular patient on a regular basis; it was often spit into a cup or other collection device for disposal or examination. This metal chute was built into the wall, and presumably handled the disposal of the bio-hazard in a safe and effective manner.

Those *really* aren't two words you want to see together...
a chute? really? the worst job in the hospital. sputum chute cleaner.
Where's the chute?
Definitely hazardous waste. In all the TB hospital I have seen photos of I have never seen this sign posted in any of them.
I want that sign for my bathroom door.
PS,
eeeeww
yuckkkkkkkkk
LOL, AD Nilsen, that'd be good!
AKA the hocker bin.
Guys I just gagged, and same as Nilsen ewwwww
I laughed when I saw this. I thought it was a joke at first.
A tad redundant, perhaps? =)
Kinda sounds like the name of an old russian space shuttle.
The sputum refuses to do what?
A 'Sputum chute'? Yechhh! You're right, Glenn. Worst job ever.
Isn't TB contagious...?
COOOOOOL! I've always wondered how they handled that... I approve. Very cool find.
One of a kind find as well as one of a kind photo
would soooo like to have that sign. You definetly dont see that one everyday
whatever you do, don't mix it up with the laundry chute!
im not cleaning that!
The disposal of sputum is something I've never thought about in my entire life. (Can't say that anymore!)

Also: ew.
So, if the patient is sick already, why must it be proven, isnt it enough that their coughing up blood. Is that what used to happen when people had the common cold in the early 1900's? Probably
Ew.

'Nuff said.
PS - I'd really hate to see that thing back up. If you're late for work, you get to unclog the sputum chute! There's an incentive that would work for me!!
the sputum was in a sealed container then thrown down the chute because of the safety of the workers in the buildings
Nice!..High (HARKKKKKKKK) Five!!
Ok...these comments are TOO much! I can't stop giggling...

As for an incentive for NOT being late for work (John you are late again....go clean the sputum refuse chute) I think I would be EARLY every day for work if THAT was the punishment!

EWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
Oh, my.
How's your appetite after seeing that one?
