Are those doorways in the background?
They dont look too wide.
Openings do look rather small Matt, Closets Perhaps!? The door is posing and was waiting for Motts to take its photo. Nice!
Here in may answer the question about the door panels in the last picture?
Spooky dark narrow closets?
Holy cow, that's a narrow doorway. I don't think I could even get through that sideways!
That is pretty narrow,My wife and I once lived in an apartment with a door to our second floor about as tight as this one , we had to bring most of the furniture and larger items through the second floor window and I kid you not , a large pizza box would need to be tilted to make it through .
Per my history degree and tours of castles in Europe;

The narrow doorway, leading to a darkened steep flight of stairs would also commonly lead to a sharp turn to the right. This was commonly used as an excape route by the besieged fleeing from assaulting men in armor. The narrowness of the entryway forced the assaluting parties to turn sideways to fit through, the dark staircase was another obstacle to slow down the besieging party, and the twist at the end turns right because all knights and men-at-arms were trained to wear thier shields on thier left side. The turn purposefully exposed thier unshielded side.

Just a thought, or perhaps they got the doors half price.
Ok, I guess the doors were not that fancy. Somebody just decided to kick the crap out of them. :o)
Boy, I need to seek some professional help for this overactive imagination of mine. I can totally see some berzerker patient chasing the others into the room through that door, or maybe trying to get at them through it.....
I wonder if some architect was such a history buff...can't imagine a scenic NY health spa being besieged.
For some reason narrow doors and doorways were common in that era. You can see them in many historic upstate NY buildings.
i always play a little game of "guess what Motts titled this shot."
I finally got one right!!!
Great work, Motts!
