Also notice in the background how many of the brick ceilings are arched... this technique may, at least in a small part, explain how the bricks have stayed up for so long!

Exquisite craftmanship. They spared no expense on these buildings.
The banisters only remained on the flight leading up to the top floor, which is in the background.
Its sad that this kind of craftsmanship is a dying art. Beautiful...
