The wrought iron staircase was incredible to see intact (for the most part).

Kind of remind me of a grand stair case out of old pictures of ocean liners
that is beautiful....your pictures are amazing
Wow, that is a beautiful staircase, and look at those columns! They just don't build them like this any more.

(I'm a long-time-visitor-first-time-writer. Your photos are so amazing and spectacular, I couldn't keep silent any longer.)
Oh YES! There it is, still in all its rusted glory! Fantastic Photo Motts.
Great photo,Motts. This has it all color. composure, and one great subject
that must have been something in it's time.
it is a shame modern construction has left this
style and level of detail behind.
Coolest interior shot yet.

I take it this was the building that had been gutted in the 80's?

Dare I suggest wallpaper?
Awsome details! Love the old iron work.
Oh wow gorgeous! Tin ceilings? Bet this place was gorgeous when it was cared for.
This was a beautiful place at one time. Its too bad its so trashed. I wonder if they will ever save it
wow Motts this is amazing. I love the colour in this one. It reminds me of an Arabian palace. You're photos are my inspiration :-)
whats written on that window back there in dust? or is that wood? its so hard to tell. :)
the main stairway to H---
3,000 years from now the wrought iron will have rusted away and the building will have disintegrated, but there will be a plastic jug or a styrofoam cup lying there to be discovered.
so many colors
Wow! It is actually a great shot with all the colors and textures but it makes me wonder how beautiful that was back in 1890.
It still looks majestic. . . I like the blues and greens showing through the decay.

@Squiddy: Welcome!
This is definitely becoming my wallpaper on my netbook :) This is definitely a topper on my faves list!
I bet back in its heyday this staircase was beautiful. What a pity its left to rust away with no one walking up & down on it anymore. It is a total shame really. I do agree with eldokid the plastic will still be around but the building will be long gone....anyone watch the 'Life After People' series.....very interesting.......Great pic Motts!!
Whoooa! :) Favorittte!
Lighting, outstanding - Color, excellent - shadows, testure, depth, got it all! This pic is perfection!
Wow, before i saw 'Burnsides' comment first thing i thought was looked like it was out of a ship.
It's beautiful...
I'm a long time (several years) fan of this site and check in regulary to see if anything new has been posted. I love all of the galleries, history and amazing talent in photography. This shot just truly moved me. Perfection on so many levels.
wow....to bad it wasent preserved....all that work way back then only to be destroyed....but thanks to Motts we can preserve it in our memories.
reminds me of the grand staircase on RMS titanic, similar level of decay, too
Oh my God, this literally took my breath away. Such a beautiful shot.
I'm here to echo the sentiments of EchoRose. Stunning!!!
Great shot! Mr. Motts: wallpaper please!
In your picture you make it feel like one is taking the picture. One can image the tin ceilings, the enormous staircase and colors are picturesque
Too awesome!!!! I LOVE it! (welcome aboard, Squiddy!)
does anyone recall the first hydro tub? I have one, what should i do with it? Was this the primary app. for this stainlee tub? It's like 500 gallons!
This place is in terrible shape. Yet, if I close my eyes and try real hard, I can just see the grandeur it once possessed.
utterly stunning! why cant they build things like this anymore. people just dont seem to take pride in what they do anymore
there needs to be a band shoot on that staircase. Would look immense
amazing!
this is so amazing picture ... and i love it :))
more picture must post like this :))
Oh my God. The photos seen up to this point have been utter devastation & destruction. Then we are treated to this. Out of the rubble rises this magnificent staircase & columns. Even in ruin the beauty shines through. Who could have used these? Perhaps a young nurse or physician fresh out of medical school rushing upstairs to an emergency. Perhaps an elderly man or woman slowly climbing the stairs to visit a dying spouse. Or maybe a young couple descending these stairs with a new baby in their arms. These scenes played out day after day. Year after year.
wow that is beautiful! fantastic colors :)
Gor-geous!! Decay can show such color...!
