Easy Street

Easy Street

A section of the hospital was converted into a fake downtown scene, called Easy Street, I'm guessing for social rehabilitation. It consisted of 3/4 of a car pointing into a photograph of downtown Philadelphia taken sometime in the 1970s-80s, a "bank" and a "store."

My flashlight painting was taking forever, so I only have this one last photo!

How surreal, at least to me.
Motts thanks for a great gallery.
It's always a great pleasure. :)

Motts Thanks for another Wonderful Gallery to see. Motts you ROCKS DUDE. Keeping taking more Photos Please.
Okay... that's weird. I'd be a bit upset by that if I was taken there for social reintegration. It's just... surreal.

AWESOME gallery! Two shots of The Great One included! You are the best, man, really.

Since this set was taken 4-1/2 years ago, I gotta ask, is your hair still the same style? What does it look like now? (Just curious.)
Cool!
Never seen anything like it! Wonder who came up with that!
This is weird...
What a wierd shot! But it's amazing!

Is this where they teach "How to rob a bank" classes??
I LOVE IT! I am going to blow this picture up and print it and show it to my soon to be 14 year old son, on how NOT to park a car in Driver's Ed!!!!!! ( he seems to think he's gonna be driving MY car in 2 1/2 years!!!! We'll see about that).

Thank you Mr. Motts. Thank you dear posters on here, you know I love you all!!!!!! Until the next one! :)
Thanks Motts for another fantastic gallery! Always brightens the whole day to see a new gallery.
This is so cool!
That's pretty weird. I'd like to have the lamp post in my front yard, though.
Thanks again for another GREAT gallery, Mr. Motts!
Reminds me of a children's daycare.. A play scene, with toy cars and such.
I really like that lamppost,
Thanks for the latest gallery, Motts.
How strange!!

I need to get a camera and some decent locations...
If this is for rehab and training then why on earth is the car pointing perpendicular to the yellow line on the street? Shouldn't the car be going in the same direction, whether driving or parked? I would think this may confuse some people (it's confusing ME HAHA!!)
Lovely Gallery Motts truely masterfull!!!!
This is by far one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a hospital! Fabulous photo!
Strange, what were they thinking?
This seems to be about as random of something that can be found in an abandoned building. Icant wait to see what will be next
I know in the rehab hospital where I worked, (and several others) they had some old cars set up for people to learn how to transfer and such, also they would have mini apartments to help people relearn to get around like you were at home.
hate to see the end but this was a great gallery, thanks Motts.
When my grandmother was in a rehab hospital, she went to easy street. It was physical therapy to help her get around the city, stuff like getting in and out of cars on her own to help her maintain independence. When I came to visit her she told me that she had just come from Sesame Street, so my grandfather took me to easy street to show me what she meant.
Nice ending, I love it....
'Easy Street' freaks me out!!
Alrighty then....interesting. lol

Thanks Motts! Another great gallery!
did you get into the car? that is really cool. great gallery
I have to say this. well, at least it's not Elm street. sorry, Nightmare on Elm Street has come out
Yay! I had not been here in a while, and it is good to be back. Great gallery!
Coolest Odd find ive seen..........very interesteing!
its a galant
Hey Mr. Motts, don't forget to "pahhk the cahhh, and then pick up some pizzer!" Yes, I do have a thick Boston accent: We put A's where there are R's, and R's where there are A's! Too funny! ; )
And one more thing, where's the "Soap Dispensahhh!" Sorry, Tom, but I couldn't resist! I'm just in a silly mood tonight! I guess I have "summer feveahhh!" ; )
I don't know if it's the smaller scale of the street, the positioning of the car or just the fact that there is a street in a building but this picture does not relay good mental health to me! Tres creepy, Motts. For whatever reason. I love it.
I have worked in 2 hospitals that had Easy Street. We used it quite often. Ours had the car, bus stop, cafe table, bank teller window, grocery store, efficiency apartment, curbs, ramps and stairs. My biggest accomplishment in my 17 yrs as a PT, was transferring a C5 quadruplegic, over 6 ft tall, with a halo into a car like this using a slide board going from wheelchair to front seat. What a feat!
Enjoyed seeing your photos.
Thanks for the great gallery. I spend hours looking at your work and I always seem to find some detail in a pic I didn't notice before. Stay safe in your adventures.
hey, I live in the neighborhood. only part of the building is apartments, i believe the old staff quarters. the rest of the block is still occupied by the hospital. it's got a for sale sign on it and there are various crackheads, maintenance types in and out. apparently there is some sort of rentacop to patrol the place but i've been here for years and i've seen plenty of crackheads (they love breaking in to cars on that block, the street is strewn with glass) and never 1 watchmen.
for reference, i live across the street.
Interesting, last I heard there were contractors gutting the main building. in 2006/2007.. construction must have been halted for some reason.
My dad worked at Mount Sinai when i was a child, before they closed. I would visit him as a little girl for lunch and we would go to the easy street rehabilitation center and he would let me play there in between sessions, and sometimes we could even eat in there. I had forgotten about it for many years-and then one night i dreamed of it --and called him to ask if it was real or something i mis-remembered (because i was so young at the time)
turns out it was legit--and it is so strange to see pics of it like this. i saw some pictures of it (back when the hospital was operational) and i remember it is a very strange way... i remember the car simulator and the little grocery store and i loved to play with the cash register.
I worked at a hospital that had an "Easy Street" set up. They used it a lot for physical therpy and what not. There was a bus stop, store fronts and a diner set up. As far as I know it is still in use.
my brakes went out on my truck and it went right into a stop and go store i have not thought about it until now what a trip
Wow, toally Twilight Zone lol...awesome
Not the creepiest, but definitely the most "what the heck...?" inducing photo I've seen yet. Very Twilight Zoney allright.
It'd be funny if they just left this in when the condos/apartments were built...be something odd, surreal, and entertaining to the residents,as well as preserving the history here

Question: What is the first letter of the word "abandoned?"
