Welcome

Welcome

The shuttered main entrance had a small vestibule with a vaulted ceiling, marble floors, and ornate woodwork carved into a heavy mahogany door.

The carvings in the door are gorgeous. Neat ceiling!
Ooooooh! LOVE.
I agree with Toot, Lovely entrance and woodwork!
Some classical touches in Architecture.
Absolutely Awesome!!!!!
Just a little touch of beauty in an otherwise drab scene
Simply gorgeous!
Almost gate like to me.
Mott's title of the shot seems ironic.
amazing ceiling....not made like that anymore
One word.. Wow
impressive, but what was the point of making a grand front hall if only the insane would be able to see it?
Well, Merc, I assume there were some visitors. The hospital would want to leave a grand first impression. And who is to say that insane people cannot appreciate beauty anyway? There is some amazing and talented artwork done by institutionalized people that proves the contrary is true.
Its a shame that the rest of the building wasnt as beautiful as this. I think the oatients would have appreciated it
They probably wanted a grand hall at the main intrance to make people think it was a good place. Lovely photo by the way.
breathtaking
this is beautiful, but I'd feel safer looking at it from the outside of the building.
My favorite by far
it looks like it was taken in a church .
Really nice photo. I do have to say though that it looks a little bit
sinister from the way the light is coming in from the window.
