Ramp

Ramp

A unique feature of this hospital building was the central ramp; considering that most of the residents here required wheeled transport, it made sense to have this installed to serve as an emergency exit rather than a staircase.

the green mile
It looks like it goes on forever! The windows on the side - were they to patient rooms or office type room? That would be fun to skateboard down!
I'm pretty sure the windows faced the outside, as the stairwell was located along the back and center of this rectangular part of the building.
Glad to see the stpip down the middle. If you have ever tryed to push a wheel chair on carpet for any distance, you know what I mean.
That would still be a very long push!
Anybody thinking wheelchair races?
It's all down here form here.... mostly because I have no brakes!
wooow, Im getting dizzy just looking at that.
kinda creeped out by the CAGE WALL on the side as you go up
The cage on the sides was to prevent jumping. There are some people that compulsivly jump off anything, even if it is only a chair or stool. If given the chance, they would jump from higher items. We used to have a resident that did that, his feet were totally ruined from being broken so often. Jumping was his "thing" , part of his illness.
Oh yeah, that's freaky.

Not liking that at all to be honest...
you could put to patients side by side and let go and make bets on who would win the race.....
Walk up the first flight, start the second part, at the very end of the ramp, a set of two bright eyes in the darkness
I would love to race office chairs on that, betcha I'd win!
I'll race you Dawn!
On your mark, Jackie, get set rolllllll!!!!!!
My first feeling was disorientation. Wow. Vertigo, anyone?
yes, vertigo, very much so, zombiedawn!
Matchbox car races
If you come down this in a wheelchair, you better have good brakes. The pitch (angle) of the ramp is quite steep. Lovely shot, thanks for sharing, Mr. Motts.
Waterslide anyone???
This closed in ramp area was also used to train staff. We were blind folded and trained to walk up and down the ramp to simulate what it would be like to be totally blind.
Gorgeous! Very awesome!
