wow, I'm shocked someone hasn't swiped that. Only because it's probably the only thing worth anything and the only thing you CAN swipe! (not that I ever would)
That looks to be a mag sound reader on top, but no an optical reader below. This had been sitting unused for a long time.
Interesting stuff! Great pic!
Must be pre-WW2 or am i wrong ?
I stand corrected, the picture a couple back shows the housing under the head that likely held the optical reader. I am a little surprised at the amount of rust on these. The conditions must be really bad as these usually seem to hold up better.
I would so love to find one of these beasts and offer to buy it. Years ago a friend of mine had a pair he got out of some old theater and offered them to me FOR NOTHING. I just had to move them out of his basement. I turned it down because there was no way I could move these monsters up a flight of basement steps and I couldn't find anyone at the time to help me. Everyone said "what do you want those things for?" I often wonder if they are still down there, rotting away.
these are soooo amazing! They dont make them like this anymore
I bet they were alot simpler then and worked just as good as new ones today?
Yeah Robski, if I had to guess, I'd say the seating and the projectors are from the 30s to 40s era. Maybe someone more familiar with the stuff can comment? Very cool stuff!
Correct. The heads are from the 30s. The mag penthouse dates from the 50s.
Hey Mista' Motts! Uh oh, there goes my Boston accent again! : ) Don't you just love this "analog" version of a movie camera?! Besides still photography, do you also film videos? And by the way, how did you get that nickname "Motts"?
No, haven't done much video work... it's interesting but I don't think I have the skills for it. My nickname stems from a friend calling me Tom backwards, I think... it was a long time ago :-)
Thanks for the info! : )
I use a Simplex E-7 on a weekly basis. These images make me sad because it's so difficult to find spare parts.
all these theater pictures are all starting to remind me now of Bioshock woot woot!
Love it-notice the optional lens bracket supporting the extra length (and weight) of the lens. Must have been quite a throw from the booth to the screen!
