Wet Asbestos

Wet Asbestos

One last look at the dank tunnel covered in beautiful green mold... some of these semi-underground passages have been bulldozed in recent months.

New meaning to keeping it green! Thank you once again, Mr. Motts.
They "went green" before going green was popular!

Thanks for another exciting trip, Motts!
It's an official diagnosis: I have an addiction to Opacity! Thank you for another fix!
The first time I ever went out of state to visit/photograph a place was to this hospital, I actually didn't even really know where I was headed, I had to ask locals to head me in the right direction. That was like 6 years ago, and my one roll of film got stuck in my camera and pretty much destroyed, so seeing GOOD photographs of the place is a treat. I'm still hanging in there waiting patiently for you to upload a gallery of the [name edited] Psych complex, which was a pretty stunning place in size and overgrowth and also a place I only managed to get a few photos on film that are long lost..
Thanks greatly Mr.Motts.
You have a gift you share.
I would be wharing a mask walking through there
Hey Erica, sorry the photos didn't make it out of the camera! I only have a really old set from that hospital posted online, although I have a few recent trips that I haven't gotten to - http://www.opacity.us/...ychiatric_center.htm

AWESOME set Motts! All the rooms filled with artifacts make every picture worth those thousand words and them some. I can't thank you enough for sharing this stuff, and bringing these snapshots of history to the web for all to see!
This is one of my favorite galleries Motts fantastic for sure!
What a great gallery Motts. I always enjoy seeing your woyk for the past 4 years.
Outstanding work Mr. Motts. Thanks so much for posting them.
Well, Motts, that's awesome. Because I'm pretty sure when I first saw that gallery that I missed the little asterisk stating that wasn't the real name. I must've been stoned, because I just figured "Hey no kidding.. maybe theres a twin hospital?!" Hah. Thank you for taking the time to point out that link for me, man.
Again thanks for the journey! Looking forward to the next.
Motts, this is definitly in my top 3 favorite sets! Absolutely AMAZING! I've said it before, I'm saying it again...you are incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your photographs with us. I can't wait for the next gallery!

Thanks Motts!
Ghost hunters just did the first "official" investigation here, heard some footsteps, voices, black shadows.
Motts Thanks again for another wonderful Gallery to see. Keep up the wonderful work you do.
An atmosphere of sadness surrounds this whole place, meaning the asylum in general.

I have seen so much photos containing stuff that is simply left to rot and rust away, why not give it away instead?

Why not fix this building up and use it for something else? A school for example or a hospital, I am sure people could find some use for this building, rather then letting it deteriorate and rot away.

Ofcourse it could also be that the entire place is in such a bad condition then that there is no option other then to demolish a big part of it, rather sad in my opinion...

An atmosphere of sadness and depression always seems to surround abandoned hospital, assylums and schools...
@F.H.-Yes, I agree with you-it is a shame that they don't rehab these old, beautiful, historical buildings. Builders and architects just don't make "castle-like" buildings any more. There's certainly no creativity these days in building large, plain, square-looking structures with no pizazz! Formerly, the old Kirkbride buildings held such a hauntingly, beautiful mystique-why not preserve them? I guess it all comes down to money, these days... rehabing and creating castle-like structures cost too much... but where is the beauty?
Rumor has it that some of the underground tunnels collapsed around the same time you posted this. I hope it isn't true.
Those tunnels went ,or were connected to all the bldgs, spent many days in them,Older employees would bring us new ones down there to get us lost.. Miss those old guys..Alot of good people worked there..
wow this is amazing
looks to me like the path to cancer. KEEP OUT... :/
I feel I need a respirator just looking at this..
It just dawned on me that someday you may be taking pictures of the very room where I now sit. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was no longer a need for a building like the one I work in? I would be thrilled to look at it as long ago abandoned. S
