Rubber Room

Rubber Room

This is the only true "rubber room" I've come across so far, where the walls and floors were composed of a permanent rubber-like material rather than mats or molded plastic. The walls were soft enough to make a depression that would quickly morph back into a flat wall after the pressure was released. The floors were less flexible, but still yielded a bit under one's feet. The large window in the door was composed of a thick plastic or Plexiglas material.

Wow, a real life ruber room.
looks like fun
So they actually do exist in real life. It seems strange that this is the only one you've ever come across before Motts.
I always thought that was just a phrase. Guess not! The padding almost sound like the memory foam we have today.
Very interesting.
that actully sounds comferbale
We could use one of these rooms in this office I work in!
So clean looking and in good condition! Amazing!
Any idea if they're just more vulnerable to decay, or if they never saw widespread use?
I imagine this rubber material is more resilient to decay than other kinds of padding, and the craftsmanship put into the construction was excellent, as a sloppy job might create a dangerous situation (such as the material peeling off, revealing a sharp edge or wall fastener). The building itself is in excellent condition, and only recently abandoned (circa 2001).
would be fun to spend some time in here in order to unwind
I got into one once,at an open house, just to see what it was like. Would not like to be in there for real.
I thought they were more common-place . . . I've seen one in my days.
I could probably keep on poking that wall for days... .3.

But anyways. Awesome! I've never actually thought they existed... or were still around D:
just wondering how come all of these sites you went to a half a decade ago .. do you ever post or do you still do this today .. nothing seems current, the website is awesome just curious about this
Too many photos, not enough time. It really takes a while to process each photo, write about and tag each one, organize into a gallery, write about the trip, then craft a few paragraphs on the history of the place after researching it.

I still do this today; I hope to post a handful of some recent trips in the Ephemera section every now and then just for fun.
This facility must have just been vacated. It looks like it is in pristine condition.
thanks motts keep up the good work i really enjoyed this site today alot of stuff here to look at...awesome
yet another amazing set.......you never cease to inspire :)

great thanks nick.....a bit of trouble with the old pc but now I'm back.....yourself?
what is a rubber room for? I am totally lost! lol
pretty good at work now .. hey i found a great site for abandoned places michaeljohngrist.com.. motts have you heard of it ?
Would make a cool recording studio
So the "rubber room" really does exist. Don't know if this makes me happy or sad. Great picture either way!
Motts, you can still find some rubber rooms. Visit Washington DC:)
we one of these in our work !
Weird, how "padded room" type places are so much a stereotype of psychiatric facilities, yet we have to go looking for actual photo evidence.
Wow dude, I NEED to be in this room, Looks like fun.
There in the hall on the wall is that pale hospital green shade of paint. And those very upscale stylish state- of -the- art -drop-ceiling panels.
Both are sure to get a fetch in the reality market.
Heck if it wasn't just abandoned I'd leave it just like this and scoop it up, and reuse it all, for one huge children 's activity center.
Just bring in your canned goods for a donation:
regrettably, in my misspent youth, I spent a fair amount of time in "seclusion rooms", aka "rubber rooms" - however - this is the first REAL Rubber Room I've ever seen. Awesome! When did you say this place closed down?
