The cool night air still lingered in the patient's rooms, fogging the windows.

wow, the perspective seems a little off, is that just the angle or is the room really askew?
i cant tell what that is on the floor to me it could be pillows or sandbags. yea eldokid i kinda notice that too
Nap time anyone?
Homeless people?
Oh, please tell me they didn't make patients sleep on the floor??

My instinct tells me these are just leftover mattresses tossed down indiscriminately.
Yeah, it got too cold so I stopped sleeping in there.
No...it is not the remnants of cool night air...it is the clouded spirit of souls long gone...
Also, even in psych hospitals today, if a resident uses their bed to hurt themselves, they can have their mattress and bedding on the floor. They are making progress with "psych" furniture that looks less institutional, and more homelike...only with no screws, nuts, or bolts that can be taken out. Also, "psych" mattresses are all sealed with vents sewn into the seams so that the mattresses can not be torn open. It is nice to know that they are making steps to make a better environment for those with mental illness.
I asked for extra pillows, but no one came
On modern "head injuy" units many times patients confused tend to wander, usually to get to the bathroom. Of course nowdays lucky patients in such a delicate state, have a family member overnight with them. shocking yes..... the reward is when they recover and again lead a normal life.
if you've ever read that article "gaebler: o hell and back", this seems similar to the isolation rooms he described... dirty mats in empty rooms smelling of urine and feces...
