Destroy

Destroy

A large dining area was located along the side of the first floor; the structural supports may be the product of Amtrak's restoration work in the 1970s.

Do you mean that those supports may have just been left out there in the open for the remainder of the time that the station was in operation?
Too little too late
possibly a dropped ceiling?
Could never figure out why they would cover such architecture with an ugly dropped ceiling...those arches are really something!
Looks as if they've lowered the ceiling at one stage
cos of the railing, and its now all over the floor.
Another Brutalist 70's renovation...
At least Amtrak didn't put that fake wood stuff all over...
I love those arches! And serioulsy, what is with the drop ceilings? WHY would you cover the arches?
The "remuddling" efforts were done to modernize the station to the style of the times. By the 70s, however, the writing was on the wall for passenger rail. The workers that arrived through this station manufactured the personal transportation that replaced it. Ram-trak can now only operate with large gov subsidies.
why do the little morons spray paint everything???
because litle morons have little minds
beautiful
DESTROYED!!
MCS has been used a lot lately for filming movies. In 07-08 when they put the huge fence surrounding the building, they added beams and whatnot for other possible uses of the building.
And, we're not morons, we paint because we try to enhance the already bleak and ugly in Detroit. There are a lot of masterpieces throughout the city that go hand in hand with your urban exploration.
Its a shame that in the 70s Amtrak spent so much money to restore this place and 10 years later it gets abandoned and left too rot.
