Olander Cafeteria

Olander Cafeteria

The Olander Cafeteria was added on in 1935, the kitchen to the right served the entire hospital, and the cafeteria was for the main complex. The slime on the floor was ultra slippery.

could anyone tell me what is left of north hampton if anything. i had the pleasure of visiting there in 1986 when i was working for the mass dept of correction, ive been around and photographed all of massachusetts kirkbrides accept for n hampton, its the farthest from me. if anyone has any info id be grateful before three hours of driving.
The Kirkbride is still standing, as well as the large complex across the road, but they have started construction on the buildings surrounding the Kirk.
for a nanosecond there, i thought i saw "oleander cafeteria" which would have been a tacky name for an eating establishment as oleander is highly poisonous. i wonder who olander was... looks like i have some homewirk to do....
*homework, even. o_O
Could it be this person? -->

Edwin Lawrence Olander (b. 1917) "also known as Edwin L. Olander" of Northampton, Hampshire County, Mass. Born in Northampton, Hampshire County, Mass., March 17, 1917. Republican. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II; mayor of Northampton, Mass., 1946; delegate to Republican National Convention from Massachusetts, 1948. Protestant.
Yes I believe it was named after mayor Olander who dedicated to expand the hospital and improve living conditions there.
I wonder if he is the same Edwin L. Olander who was a WWII ace pilot who flew in the South Pacific? That Ed Olander flew with Pappy Boyington in the Blacksheep Squadron. If so, they still make model airplanes of the Corsair he flew.
very interesting. thank you motts and lynne! i did a search for "olander" and got too many different hits. when i typed in "olander" and "cafeteria" i got 2 hits for this site.

what's strange is i just checked out one of your other galleries for northampton and found this cafeteria which was indeed titled "oleander". coincidence? accident? or gmta???
Just ask lynne,she knows everything.
I have noticed a few brief off colored comments about Lynne popping up. The whole idea here is to share what you know and what you think. If you have something to say about the subject then do so. Slight, sarcastic remarks do not add to the discussion. Lynne does an excellent job of researching questions that people have asked, presenting facts about items/issues, and adding to the atmosphere in general. I personally am grateful for her researching skills and knowledge. She has a lot of experience in many of the things discussed here. I have learned a lot on this website. I have had mentally ill relatives in the past that dealt with many of the issues presented here and am grateful that there are so many visitors here who have shed some light on what used to be kept so silent.

Did you even look at the wonderful pictures that are presented here? It doesn't seem that you have even given them a second thought.
