I love all of your photographs. These provide such an interesting insight to WWII Germany. Thanks! I can't imagine putting my kid in that thing.

Urgh... I wished I'd had that when my mom used to cook liver...
I may be wrong (my German is quite rusty) but I believe the -chen suffix means "small" in a somewhat cute way. Perhaps to take a little of the bite out of the situation?
Bettchen is just an old-fashioned german word meaning little bed (for a child).
