The Pool

The Pool

The pool area was the most trashed out of everything. Kids probably skateboard in here.

i want to skate there
Oh man, I used to swim in that pool as a kid..... in 1977 and again in 1982! It was such an elegant indoor pool back then with swanky futuristic (50's) hanging lamps, chaise lounges, and little tables with ashtrays everywhere... yes, you could smoke by the pool in those days! There were built in planters on the walls with lots of live foliage. The water return in the pool featured jets shooting across the pool from either side. It is hard to look at like this. It is even harder to imagine how nice it used to be if you only see it now!
I can imagine they do :P
i would love to see some pix from when the hotel was being used...anyone have any?
Check out both those links, they're pretty good. The second one even has a pic of that cheesy "honeymoon" suite pool in use. The couple in there has a baby with them. Guess somebody didn't make it quite in time!
Yeah, I thought that was kinda odd. Kinda ruins the mood, ya know?
well, at least only the pool got trashed, and not the cool Art Deco/modern 80's style lighting and such...:)
And thusly, the "NO DIVING" sign suddenly became more obvious.
The couple in the tub was Steven Ehrlich, son of the owner, and his wife and first child
Eh, i guess i spoke too soon about the lack of craffiti thing :( oh well
I think the Fallsburgh High School boys Swim team used to train and hold meets at this pool right up until 1975 when the team was disbanded
Oh well, as long as they stick to the pool area, I guess...
Why do empty pools freak me out?
I had my first swimming lessons there.
Sam I think a Lot of people had their first......Shoot I'm running out of ink to finish this......
i skated their once beofre it isnt that good all the chloriene they use to put in there gets stuck to ur bearings wich makes u fall in it sucks but its still fun:)
Take out the graffitti...imagine the pool full of sparkling water...see me laying back on yellow chaise....This must have been awesome in it's day. It is still so bright!
It was definitely an awesome pool. There were 2 diving boards, one low and the other about 4 feet up. There were pink and blue lights on the sides of the pool, below the waterline, that were used for "Midnight Swims", during which only some of the room lighting was used. I was a lifeguard here in the early 80's. Winter, with a newly fallen snow just outside the huge galss walls, was amazing as well. I remember teaching sr citizens to swim, some of which were concentration camp survivors. Listening to their stories was great. There there were the singles weekends, high school and college trips, which could get a little wild!!! The Pines was a truly unique experience, a part of my life I wouldn't trade for anything.
dude, i wanna skate there.
'kids' skate there? Motts, are you showing your age? Damn, just as I was thinking you were kinda 'cool' too.
Well, yes I am getting old I suppose :-)

I read somewhere that it was a popular skating place at one point for teenagers. I also used to skate back in the day as well; it wasn't meant as a derogatory comment toward skaters, although it could be easily misconstrued as one due to my laziness in typing (this site was more of a pastime three years ago).
I'm just giving you stick. I didn't take it as a derogatory comment against skaters, rather the sentiment that you must feel a lot older now. I don't think anyone should ever stop their inner child from playing, it keeps the fun in what has become an OhSoSerious world . I've been thinking about it and reading your 'kids' remark made the decision for me, I'm gonna get myself a skateboard and learn. God help me.

So there you go again, Mr Motts, changing complete strangers lives again with your small corner of the internet. You rock!
When i looked at this picture i thought hm great skatebored ramp than you said kids must skatebored there and i couldent agree more.
do you see where it used to say
"no diving"
someone traced in " no diviant"
I'd like to thank them for that in personk!
i was the lifeguard in in the pines.i once saved a kids life in that indoor pool i still might have the key.willy roach was the headlifeguard
When I stayed here, I never did use the indoor pool.
Old?! - I'm being sued by dirt!..........
I went swimming in a old motel pool a couple of days ago. There was no graffiti in this pool, and thankfully it was in better condition than the pool depicted here. It was more like the pictures of the purple room if you can imagine that.
I thought of this website instantly. It was dirty and fun at the same time. Not what I would have chosen and still... it wasn't so bad. There were no lights turned on in that area of the motel. That added to the ghostly feel of the experience.
Ooooooooooooooooh!
Anyway,
It was fun.
if i could skateboard, i would skate here.
beautiful. <3
OOH LETS ALL GO SWIMMINGG!
Yea, lets!
That pool looks weird! i dont swim much its really cold in england at the moment! is that painting on the pool!
Mum say's i have to get off..its rather late here and i have church to go to!!! good luck with that swimming
ihdcm and ilovehorseyrides..let me know how that works out for you two! Lol :D
I would rather swim in the pool at my school, cause I was there,, and I put all the moldy mattresses and sofa in the pool, and I jumped off the diving board, and when my head landed on the mattresses, OUCH! It hurt!!! I nearly killed myself by doing something that stupid!!!
now cohttp://ineedattention....card_indoor_pool.jpg

compare it to the pic when it was in use from here...
@ Sharon Day-Thanks for the mention of the Pines site! This hotel must have been a great place in its day. I especially like the shot of the skating rink on the site-it's amazing how some of these old resorts had rinks in them. I would have gone there-I was a figure skater in high school-it was a lot of fun! : )
Hey Mr. Motts-was the old rink still there when you explored the Pines?
It's been a long time, so I'm not sure. Perhaps it was hidden in the weeds; we were trying to stay inside to avoid footprints in the snow.
Nice pic, Sharon Day!
was just there...this picture makes the pool look pristine! so so sad...
UPDATE: The pool area has been torn down & there is a video on YouTube of it being done.

There is a couple videos of the south wing being burned down by fire fighters as well. Looks like The Pines is being taken down a piece at a time.
