Very stylish Corinthian pillars. Looks quite fancy.
I like how the windows give a sign of optimism to the deteriorating inside.
Beautiful...amen Henri!
I have said it before and will again. every picure is better than the last.never thought I would spend hours upon hours looking at photos of old buildings.
I love the black and white photos of this auditorium, it looks so peaceful, I would have to say one of my favorite pictures.
What really scares me about the auditorium is that my boyfriend went in there with a couple friends. They realized they lost one of their groupmates in the auditorium. They went back to get him but he wasn't there. The looked around for him but never found him before they were chased out by the police. A few days later they heard about the friend they lost. He was found in the auditorium by the police and he had to be sent to various different mental hospitals and somehow he killed himself. I want to go see the hospital myself, but that story kinda freaks me out. There's something strange about it for me. I'll drive by it and get this strange...desire. I don't even know what I desire, but I definitely know the feeling. So I come home and scan through all the photos on this site, and then for some reason, I have a fear of mirrors for weeks until I stop thinking about the hospital. I have a really big mirror in my room and one night it was so bad, I actually cried the whole time I covered it and I had to delete all the photos I had on my computer that I was going to use for a project. (Don't worry, I never took any from here. I didn't want to be sued.)
that is a very scary story! I want to go in but it is illegal. I hear stories about chairs moving and doors shutting and locking. That is more than I could take!!!
It's no longer there ,is it???? Such a shame to destroy these buildings. Many of the buildings photographed and displayed on this site have since been demolished. I could never travel that far to visit one of the buildings, so the photos are my visit. Thanks to Motts, we still have them to view. The architecture is so beautiful and awsome. The big problem in the US is destruction of the buildings that were built on the beautiful revival schemes and replacing them with partical board, cookie cutter housing. Soon we will have no architectural history! Greed and near sightedness drive that destruction!
there is so much mistery here, you cant get a straight answer out of anybody. its a dam shame there tearing it down.....
jeez! nice shot!
I think I understand that desire, Kikyo. Something draws people like us to these old buildings... not just the building, but the lifeforce once within and the fact that it's passed. Strange and sad story. What a pic... constructed with shades of the Greco-Roman. The Parthenon was made with talent and reverence to last thousands of years. This was built with similar craftsmanship, only to be felled after 155 years......
