The basement looks like a pretty scary place to visit. I think it's probably haunted!
its is haunted...very haunted
I love the way the light falls in this picture.
trust me some terrible things must have happened here
Why would you think that, Julissa?
Tony, my little cumezekyama, you KNOW I love you! :-)
AAWWWWW!!!
***Blushes.....hands in pockets...kicks an invisible dust bunny around...***
It's not that bad... it just looks old.
The lighting is beautiful.
Rooms? In The Basement? For What?!
Methinks that the little window on the left was the nurses station. I found that there were little sills in these tiny room that may have been for patients to sit on. I believe these places in the basement were active wards at one time perhaps for the more violent. Working there for 14 years and wandering these hallowed halls, nobody had any answers why they exsisted.
the other night i went through and walked the basement the morgue is down there also the labotomy lab were it is said to be were the most torture took place. It is soo fricken' scary i might do it again but when i got home I was so cold that i was blue up to 2hrs after we left my brother said that i looked dead--i do beleive that the place is haunted
Em . . . . . . . . . . .
The contrast of light and shadow pretty much says it all. It's where we enter from the light into the darkness. We not know whats before us and we don't know what the conclusion will be. We struggle for the anwers for what the photos show us, but it only answers some and leaves us with no answers for most. Motts you are a vehicle for further study.
i once walked the halls, tunnels and grounds....did you ever stop and listen to the wind? Are you sure the wind is what you are hearing...dee dee sd in a few pictures back that the souls will remain..do you thinkith this is true?
i was there ive seen the hole buliding and it is quiet a site. indoors and out
My favorite picture yet. Awesome framing.
This is such a beautiful picture. I love the colors and how you captured three doorways at once!
These days after working the old dreamcastle for fourteen years, mostly nights, I find my dreams have been dominated by my wandering over the old grounds. It has captured me and refuses to let me go. Two or three night a week I dream of the old place like it's holding me captive until it's total destruction is final. The spirits continue to wander it's deathly , huanted deteriorating halls and won't be satisfied until the final question is answered, please release us. It's reminds me of one limb cut off at a time, no mercy to get it over with but only the time for the politicians and beureacrats to make there earthly gains and let the rest of die a slow death.
Yeah i went there on 10/27/06 tried to go in the basement and the whole basement was flooded to the top of the basement stairs. Then as my friends and i left after walking around for hours got arrested for trespassing, and breaking and entering.!
Johnny Mac,I love reading your commets you bring life to this place.
I'm wondering why so many mental hospitals were built here in massachusetts? I remember the old Boston State Hospital , it was emormous
but, from what I can recall parts where shut down during the 80's due to funding cuts.
Large population?
I have enjoyed reading all of your (well, most of your) comments so much that I haven't taken the time to make my own. Threee things stand out in my mind. First, Motts, your pictures are outstanding compared to all other UEx sites I have visitted, and you were a geniius to allow comments. People like Lynne have a lot to add. Second, when buildings like Northampton were built there was no electricity. How did they illuminate places like this basement? The architercture of these places must have taken lighting inbto account. ANd Lastly, I can imagine what people will be saying in another 150 years about our methods of handling people today, with any kind of illness "Oh, can you imagine the terrible things they did to people in 2007. They actually cut them open to fix internal organs. How in-humane."
There was British hospita called Rauceby which was taken over by Army & the service tunnels were large & clean enough to use as temporary wards.
johnny mac.....i no what u mean with that last comment about dreaming all the time about one place only.....when i went to belchertown state school all me and my cusin would dream about what that place for like 2 whole weeks...and something kept calling all of us that went there that night to go again we talked about that place for like a month and till today we still want to go.......have any of ya ever went there ?
i thought that north hampton state hospital was allready dimolished?;i heard that there wasn't much left to it anyway' and also noone was allowed on the property now;quote me if i'm wrong;
omg! that is so creepy!
These photos and what they represent are distubing but ever so cool. I wish I could have visited this hospital.
I WISH THEY DID NOT TORE IT DOWN IF THEY DID NOT I WOULD GO TO IT. I HERD THAT THE BASEMENT WAS 4 THE REALY INSANE PEOPLE.
i wanna spend the night here
I never went inside but dreamt often that I had, even 15 years after leaving MA.I lived at Smith just across the river and could see the roof from there.Recently found out my greatgrandmother was locked up there with alzheimers.Several of my uncles and aunts worked there .Is it really torn down?
I had the opportunity to visit this amazing building, one of my brother in laws friends use to be a security guard long after it was abandoned. We entered the building on a hot July night and I felt a chill that I haven't felt before.....The underground tunnels were terrifying and like mazes. if you got lost in there good luck finding your way out.....
I love the orange light
Spooky but a cool shot
I swear if all these locations were people we'd be best friends :)
Now that is just plain terrifying! Hate to be down there without a flashlight
Has It been torn down??? I herd its now just a bunch of condo's?
I think there is like just a coupple original buildings left but that they are locked up SOOOOO good that you would need WAYYYY more than just an axe or sledge hammer to get into them. And ya i guess that there are a bunch of condo's there now. But there are like i said a coupple original buildings there but i wanna get in em soooooooo fuckin bad lol.
