For whatever reason this is in Russian not German. The top line says Breathing. The first half of the 2nd line is indecipherable. The last half of the 2nd line says benefits. First half of the 3rd line is indeciperable but the last word on the 3rd line is probably department.

On the mail page of this gallery there was a link to a German website where they had photos of this place when it was in use. I looked through them and saw one picture that had three very similar paintings on the wall, I wonder if this one was part of that? Would be cool to put them side by side to compare.

This is in russian, because it was written while the war I guess. So we had a lot of russians in our country who used to work in hospitals and stuff.

After the 2nd world war, Germany was involved into the "Cold War". The Russians had a lot of troops in the eastern part of the land. Then, Germany was split into west and east. The communists built a wall (the iron curtain) between these two halfs and the DDR was born. The hospital was on this side and the Russians had taken it for themselves.

Actually, the Wall was only built around the western half of Berlin. The city of Berlin was located in the middle of East Germany, but was also split into west and east. The Berlin Wall did not run the length of the postwar German borders and was merely a simbol of the Iron Curtain.
