this place doesnt look abandoned
O-M-G! totally Breathtaking, perfect shot, colors, angle, One of your best pictures! I want a copy of this one .
Are there any Kirkbride buildings in use today??
There are a few, off the top of my head - the ones in Athens OH, Clarinda IA, and Independence IA are still in use as psychiatric facilities.
There is still a kirkbride building in Fergus Falls, MN that is also still in use
The Architecture of these buildings is awsome. They don't build things like this anymore. great place for a wicked Halloween party!
This is just about the most beautiful place I've ever seen, from the outside at least, it doesn't look any bit of being abandoned, like there are still people working and being treated there.
I never knew that there were any "mental" hospitals in my area, but Clarinda is about an hour away from where I am. I go through there at least 3-5 times each year and never knew it..
I am really interested in Kirkbride buildings. Does anyone have any suggestions for a possible thesis topic that involves Kirkbride buildings as the subject? I think it is awful that some of these gorgeous buildings are being demolished!
even though its my last name this place is so radical...beautiful
A victorian peice of cake with queen
Anne waiting in the wings. What time does the dance begin. Sweet.
Looks like it's floating on a cloud of green trees!
Beautiful building! The architecture is amazing.
I hope this facility was saved.
Unfortunately it went aflame and the fire department knocked massive holes in the exterior walls... it's just been sitting there since.
Motts, you got to post some pictures of it now that it has been all burnt up and everything. It would be interesting to see it now.
I went back once after the fire, the state of the building is a bit depressing.
