theirs a couple of those wierd staircases over at the kings park pyshciatric center in buildings 7 21 and 22

possibly more of a fire escape than a stairwell. Being detached from the main building, it would be free from smoke or flames should a fire occur in the main structure.

you know i have to say i went to pigrams mentle hospital in long island.. it's a shame that there isnt someone to restore these buildings and then give tours .. or do something ! i love exploreing old places.. it's a shame people couldnt go in .. so much history how sad to be let go .. justicedreams24@aol.com email me tell me what you think ?

Some British tower blocks were build with seperate liftshafts like this. On in London was recently listed.
