Foyer

Foyer

The main entrance to the building was curiously constructed... you are immediately faced with this platform, whose railing could be opened like a gate at the end. The stairs wrapped around this platform, one end descending into the basement and the other going to the ground floor.

Atop of the table are remnants of medium format film from a previous explorer or employee.

Are wires hanging from the ceiling or is there a really big spider hiding somewhere in there????
Those are very large cobwebs...
Odd set up for sure. Radiator hanging on the wall? Would not want to see the spider that lives in that web. Awesome colors
Love the window! And really sweet to see some old school film!
odd setup for a main entrance ...nice shot tho
Really weird, not to mention I get an intimidating feeling from that platform !
The gate maybe an elevator lift-entrance for wheeled chairs...
That really is bizarre. And I agree totally with Ari - that platform is incredibly intimidating...!
I'd agree that platform is kinda strange. I also wouldn't want to see the spider from that web haning from the ceiling either. Ugh!!!!
I'll bet you the raised platform was used to remove bodies or bring in supplies. They just rolled whatever to the edge and were able to take it away or bring it in without having to lift.
the architect must have been on crack when he designed this place
YOU ARE JUDGED RIGHT AWAY AS SOON AS YOU ENTER THE DOOR.
this hospital must be related to pennhurst, theres those radiators high up on the wall..... didnt they know the heat rises?
GREEN !!!

thanks for the pics
MAYBE A PERSON WOULD STAND THERE AND JUDGE YOU AND THEN SEND YO EITHER UPSTIRS OR DOWNSTAIRS
yes, they knew that heat rises, but remember these places had to accomodate people who were dangerous to themselves--harder to burn yourself (on purpose or not) on a high-placed radiator. Not to mention seditives and other meds--can you imagine if some sedated patient fell asleep against one? Better to elevate them.
I agree with Fla. Gator that the gated platform was possibly so that people entering, carrying perhaps a body or something else heavy on a stretcher or not, can just slide it onto the platform without having to haul it up the stairs or bend down and lift it up again.
