Looking out the front of the building into the Adirondacks. The moss on the floor was spectacular.

I really love this shot, a lot.
Sorry, but you are looking at the Catskills. The Adirondacks are much further north. Regardless, your pix are great -- many thanks.
Must've fell asleep in geography class! Thanks!
I vaguely remember the Pines as a kid the pictures are bringing back memmories.
This looks like Kubrick's inspiration for his view of The Overlook in The Shining. Wow.
Great shot for an uninspired movie director making the next "Hotel Hell in the Catskills" movie!! Hollywood couldn't have fabricated this scene any better.
This shot is just so incredable...the furnature still there and in tact, with the moss growing on the floor...amaizing. Well done.
These pictures are the best. Just like people just left the place. No graffiti or other shit around just decay of the years.
Another building left to rot.
How sad to see a beautiful hotel turn to decay. I had a cousin who worked there in the 50's to the70's he worked in the dinning room . I would go up to the Pines and the Concord hotel many times . It was so beautiful up in the Catskill Mountains back than. How very sad it is that people can no longer enjoy.
Oh and buy the way my cousin's name was Don Brower.
Beats Astroturf.
I remember this lobby filled with people after dinner..they would all have song sheets and sing along with Getrude Turtletaub on the piano - many of the people had on those green "Pines" hat with the feather they used to sell at the gift shop..ahhh memories....if you remember send me an e-mail

homeless person's dreams
just for the sake of aurgument, probably not.
Yeah, I'll bet those couches do NOT smell as good as they might look in this photo.
My daughter is looking at these photos with me and she thought this picture was a graveyard at first! I could see what she's talking about, with the green moss and tombstone shaped couches! Wouldn't it be nice to have living moss as a carpet, if it stayed green and didn't get slimy? lol :)
Oh, all the times I played BINGO and attended Cocktail Parties in that lobby! What a shame!
I can't believe it's deteriorated this much in just 11 years....
how does all the moss get in?
btw ive always wanted to see a padded cell .... youve made my day motts!
This picture captures the essence of decay and loss. My favorite so far.

I first learned that sometimes when people walk away from a structure they leave furniture and records when I visited Goldfield Nevada in 1967. The Goldfield Hotel had closed in 1959 or thereabouts, and looking in the windows of the dining room, I saw the tables set for a meal but covered with dust. The grocery store had a calandar on the wall from the year of closing and the shelves were lined with canned goods. These artifacts added to the air of tragedy and dashed lives present in the abandoned buildings.
Saywardstudio.. I thought the same thing when i first saw this pic, which is remarkable if your daughter thinks like a 31 year old adult, and just sad if it's the other way around.
Just today, January 7 2008 my sister purchased an all-brass antique coat rack that has "Goldfield Hotel" printed on it. I was hoping to find a photo that showed a coat rack to compare it to the one my sister just purchased, but no luck so far. The photo above is awesome. - Lyn Wiley

Great photo. Another example of nature claiming what man has abandoned...
Another case of nature taking over. I don't understand why people just up and leave? I worked at a ladies clothing store in downtown Albany called "Sherry's" for many many years and since that business when belly up, the building's upper floors are just left. The ground floors are rented as small convenience type stores, but the three upper floors still have all of Sherry's old fixtures. Back in the 1980's I had the opportunity to go through and purchase some of the items from the then owner. What memories that brought back but was also very sad. email any thought or memories of Sherry's to eldokid@aol.com Thanks!! LOVE THIS SITE!!
This is one of my many favorite photographed places on this website. The winter views, the green moss on the carpet, the awesome views shot of the various rooms and spaces creates a fascinating atmostphere of the place.
ooo moss carpet, how lovely
I was in the Pines last week and was amazed to see the deterioration since the last time I was there, two years ago. I'm not entirely sure if the damage was mostly due to vandalism or to the wear and tear of the elements, but the place is in far worse shape now....there is insulation and broken metal all over the place, and the floor in the lobby feels spongy. A couple of years ago I felt confident walking around the property, but this last time I was anxious to leave.
I want a moss carpet :D
It looks like the hotel they filmed "The Shining" in....creepy
the couches look like the ones in my dormitory.
Ah, another piece of '80's decor-ya gotta love it! ; )
