Cooling Tower

Cooling Tower

I don't normally mix locations, but I've added a few photos of the Beringen mine, as it was quite close and photogenic. The Beringen mine was constructed in 1922, and some of the buildings are used by the Flemish Mining Museum.

Here is an infrared photo of the large cooling tower (often associated with nuclear power), which was accessible.

Wow. This is one amazing shot! I think you should make a wallpaper out of this!
Wow. I agree with Firewood218 a LOT! Though, since this is a portrait framing I guess we'd better just admire it like this. I love the sky in this.
This has a very nuclear winter look to it ~

Very cool, looks quite Post-Apocalyptic.
That does look like a nuclear power plant, kind of scary looking
Simply breathtaking.
Insane! Love the colour and the composition!
Why would a coal mine need a cooling tower?
great shot
One of your best pictures, sir! I would absolutely LOVE to see this as a wallpaper!
Frightening.
I always see nuclear-related things as so omnious...
Its like a dream...most fuzzy.
I was just wondering the same thing skyguy...things were so secretive back in the days before and after WWII.
These large coal mines needed their own generating stations to power each facility, so these towers were probably used solely by the power plant, which I imagine was a coal burner.
Power plants of all types can be found with these towers. Water is pumped to the top edge to run down the inside walls to cool. All that is emitted is water vapor.
