Block

The prison; I would guess at there being around ten cells or so, each with a rotting wooden bench at the far end.

theres so much crap on the floor yet so much looks intact
Now that's ominous. Nice in B&W, too :-). My mind always insists on supplying a soundtrack to these.....
Great Photo, Thankyou Mr. Mott's for another New Gallery. Mott's is there a 12 step program ?, I am addicted to Opacity. Best of luck to you
In this picture, I like the "noise" of various broken things and open doors.
Hi'ya, Motts! Love the B & W! Very somber!
On the door it looks like a girl with pig tails wearing a gas-mask!
i really love the beams of light in the ceiling top left corner
It must have been horrible to be a prisoner back than....it looks really old....well cause it is old....nice photo Motts!!
This photo kinda looks like some of the "cells" at the mental institutions you've photographed. BTW Lynne, I was going to write insane asylum because they were called that at one time, but mental institution sounded less severe. I don't know the proper name for them other than state hospitals.
The politically correct term is Long Term Care Facility for the Mentally Ill and/or Developmentally Disabled. The abbreviations are ICF-MR, SNF, IMD, DD, CBRF, RCAC among others.
Fla. Gator,

As you can see, the "politically correct" labels change all the time. Several years ago people "were" mentally retarded. Then more recently they "had" mental retardation. Now the term "mental retardation" has been replaced with "intellectual disability", so the person "has an intellectual disability." So you see, it depends which week you are writing in as to whether you are politically correct or not. ;-)
Yes, the big push is that you are not mentally ill, you have a mental illness. It isn't really political correctness, just trying to maintain the person's dignity. Although I still find myself referring to people as "Oh, she's borderline, or he's schizo-affective." We are trying to recognize the person first not their disease.
Looks like Bridgewater in a bad state of repair.

Last night on PBC there was a program on the hospital on Ellis island.
Sort of like an off-limit urbex tour.
A lot of things and issues figured into it.
In the end they noted that Goddard was the
man who made-up the terms "imbecile", "moron ","idiot","low moron',etc. all by himself and he did it just
by observing the expressions on immigrant's
faces.
A lot of familys were split-up because of that.
this black and white photo is very atmospheric and eerie
Diggin' the B&W.
