Yeah, usually it took people getting killed in fires or something in narrow passageways like this one before someone would wake up and realize that designs like this were a BAD idea.....unfortunately in most cases when it was too late to save people.
this was a makeshift corridor connecting
the former childrens wing to the off level
upper stories. this is in the eastern wing generally the better preserved part of halcyon, unfortunately the most boring architecturally, besides the tower and the grand ballroom
How could more than one person walk down that hallway at a time? I can just imagine going one way while someone was going the other way, and the two of us getting stuck. Waaaaaaay too narrow for comfort here.
Scary now , routine then.

After the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, fire codes changed. Many men and women were killed in that fire.
